‘We are proud to provide this valuable service for our clients, and for generations to come’
LIMA – The United Association of Plumbers, Pipefitters and Service Technicians Local 776 opened its new training facility (1300 Bowman Road in Lima) Thursday with a ribbon cutting by the Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce.
With the 8,000 square foot expansion, the union hall now has a total of 20,000 square feet.
Additional features of the new training center:
- 20 welding bays with state-of-the-art exhaust systems to keep the air clean for the students
- two classrooms with smart boards
- an open shop for construction projects (large enough to run mobile cranes so the students can work on their industrial rigging certification inside the building)
- a newly-renovated 4,000 square foot HVAC and plumbing lab
“Our organization goes back to 1889, and the reason we’ve been able to sustain our legacy is the training we provide to our apprentices,” said Local 776 Business Manager Mike Knisley.
“Our apprentices undergo a rigorous five year training program and all members take regular upgrade education classes. This new training center will allow us to keep up with our changing industry. We are proud to provide this valuable service for our clients, and for generations to come.”
The total investment in the project was $1.8 million.
