COLUMBUS – Senate President Keith Faber (R-Celina) today honored Lima Senior High School athlete Xavier Simpson and his coach Quincey Simpson on being named “Mr. Basketball” and “2016 All-Ohio Division I Co-Coach of the Year,” respectively. Mary Buehler of Anna, Ohio, also received recognition for being crowned 2016 Ohio Fairs’ Queen.
Simpson is the fourth Lima senior in history to receive the title of “Mr. Basketball.” The 6-foot guard turned down offers from Wisconsin, Illinois, Indian and Iowa to sign with the University of Michigan.
“Even though Xavier is taking his talents to the state up north, we certainly wish him the best of luck,” said Faber. “He and Coach Simpson have demonstrated incredible talent and dedication to the sport. They make Lima proud.”
Faber also recognized Mary Buehler, an undergraduate student at the Ohio State University who serves as president of the Ohio FFA.
“It’s my understanding that Ms. Buehler competed against 73 former county fair queens,” said Faber. “She truly stands out among Ohio’s young leaders through her dedication to agricultural education and community service.”
