Racers shutout Rams, 3-0

Nelson De La Pava was involved in all three of the UNOH (1-0-1) goals as he assisted on each. The first occurred with just over 17 minutes left to play in the opening half as a Sean Latimer shot deflected off of the goalkeeper’s hands but was too hot to handle as it found its way under the crossbar. Less than three minutes later, De La Pava found a sliding Latimer who redirected the ball for his second goal.

LIMA– The No. 18 University of Northwestern Ohio men’s soccer team competed in its second match of the season by challenging the (RV) University of Mobile Rams in a contest in Orange Beach, Ala. The Racers found their footing by recording a shutout victory over the host school, 3-0.

Nelson De La Pava was involved in all three of the UNOH (1-0-1) goals as he assisted on each. The first occurred with just over 17 minutes left to play in the opening half as a Sean Latimer shot deflected off of the goalkeeper’s hands but was too hot to handle as it found its way under the crossbar. Less than three minutes later, De La Pava found a sliding Latimer who redirected the ball for his second goal.

The scoring halted for the Racers despite firing 13 shots on the night. The high-pressure found the Racers adding to the scoreboard once again when a De La Pava corner kick late in the 75th minute of the contest found the head of Pepe Cejudo for his first career goal.

Nikola Kahvedzic managed to record his second shutout in as many tries with four saves and the assistance of the Racers’ defensive line.

UNOH returns to action on Friday, Sept. 2 for the first day of its home-opening tournament that involves No. 17 Bellevue University, No. 10 Baker University, and No. 5 Davenport University. The Racers host the Bruins from Bellevue for the 1 p.m. opener on Friday before battling the Baker Wildcats at 4 p.m. Sunday.
