Sibelius infused his reserved Symphony No. 6 with characteristic simplicity evoking the feeling of a new snow. This piece contrasts perfectly with his Violin Concerto, which juxtaposes cold intensity with a warm, singing melody in what has often been called his “polonaise for polar bears.” 2016 Friends of the Symphony Young Artist Competition winner Seo Yon Park will bring the breathtaking fireworks of this Violin Concerto to life.

Seo Yon Park, violin soloist
Seo Yon Park was born in Korea and learned to play the piano at the age of 7. When she was 8 years old, she began playing the violin in an elementary after-school program. Park received a scholarship to study at Interlochen Arts Academy and graduated one year early. At Interlochen, she was the concertmaster of the Interlochen Arts Academy Orchestra. Currently, Park is a sophomore studying at Oberlin Conservatory with a 4-year scholarship.

In 2015, Park received the first prize at the Alexander and Buono International String Competition and performed at Carnegie Hall as a result. Additionally, she won the LSO’s Friends of the Symphony Young Artist Competition in 2016.
