LIMA – The Lima Senior High School Athletic Department will retire Jarrod Pughsley’s Spartan football jersey during halftime of the Saturday, Feb. 20, home basketball game.
The Spartans take on Mansfield Senior with freshman starting at 4:45 p.m., JV at 6 p.m. and varsity at 7:30 p.m. The school will retire No. 54 during a varsity halftime presentation.
Pughsley, a 2009 Lima Senior graduate and standout member of the Spartan football team, played in his first regular season NFL game with the Kansas City Chiefs this season. The offensive lineman played the Dec. 20 game against the Baltimore Ravens.
As a Spartan, Pughsley earned Second Team All-Northwest District Honors as a junior and First Team All-Northwest District honors as a senior.
He walked on at the University of Akron and earned a full football scholarship there in 2011. He started 23 games out of 35 appearances at Akron. He earned the 2013 Harry “Doc” Smith Award for Outstanding Senior Offensive Player and the 2013 Football Captain’s Award.
Pughsley signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2014. He signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as a free agent the following year.
Pughsley gives back to his community and is often seen at Lima Senior sporting events and mentoring student athletes. He has also instructed youth football camps here. He joined forces with former NFL player and Elida graduate Kyle Miller to provide Thanksgiving meals to families in the first Legends Hometown Handoff last November.
