Shirley’s presents Lima Junior Service League with check at event at the Met
LIMA – The Lima Junior Service League Inc. was recently named the 2016 Shirley’s Popcorn birthday celebration beneficiary. The gourmet popcorn company, based in Bluffton, presented the local organization with a check for $5,901.72
Shirley’s Popcorn’s annual birthday celebration was June 11, 2016, and raised nearly the money from proceeds of the day’s events, which included inflatable games, carnival games, sundaes and popcorn on Bluffton’s Main Street. Shirley, the company’s namesake, had a deep love for reading and literacy, and the company chooses a different non-profit each year to support through the sales from its birthday celebration.
The Lima Junior Service League Inc. is a non-profit social organization committed to promoting children’s literacy and the well-being of women and children through fundraising and service to the community. Each year, the organization contributes more than $10,000 worth of books and monetary donations to area schools and libraries. The Lima Junior Service League also sponsors scholarships for female students in Allen County who plan to pursue an education degree. The donation from Shirley’s will allow the Lima Junior Service League to expand its book distributions to students in Allen County schools.
