The crowd was entertained by the band Syren which has been the D.A.R.E band since it started in 1995 to support the program. The band is a well known classic rock band from Lima, Ohio playing under the name Blame it on Shorty on weekends and other venues throughout northwest Ohio. Two of the current band members are local deputies. The Allen County Sheriff’s Office sponsors the D.A.R.E. Program in the Allen County Schools in either the 5th or 6th grade. D.A.R.E. teaches the kids how to make good decisions and the dangers of tobacco, drugs and alcohol plus much more. When the students graduate from the D.A.R.E. Program, the Sheriff’s Office treats them to the annual D.A.R.E. Concert.

Allen County D.A.R.E. Program Coordinator Deputy Mike White (Deputy Mike as he is known in the schools) said the celebration is a fun way to congratulate the kids on completing the program. (view photo gallery here)

He also mentioned several upcoming events that he hopes people will support. Since there is no budget for the D.A.R.E. Program, the Sheriff’s Office relies strictly on donations from the community to fund the programs and activities.

100% of money raised for the Allen County D.A.R.E. Program at the events put on by the Sheriff’s Office stays in Allen County for our kids.
