Concerts in the Parks 2016 Schedule

LIMA – The Council for the Arts of Greater Lima will launch its 50th anniversary season of Concerts in the Parks with a concerts Sunday, July 10, at the Faurot Park Rotary Pavilion.

The free concert series will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. through September 5 and include a variety of local and regional bands and music ranging from pop and bluegrass to reggae, Celtic and R&B.

The Concerts in the Parks series began in 1966 as a product of what was then the Lima Area Arts Council. It has continued without pause for the past 50 years, according to Bart Mills, executive director of the Council for the Arts.

“This series began two years before the Arts Council received its non-profit status, so it predates every other program we’ve done. Even in times when the Arts Council was having financial challenges and most programming was cut, this free series continued. I think that illustrates just how dear it is to us and our community,” Mills said.

The Arts Council will celebrate the anniversary with a special, two day event at the park on September 4 and 5. Plans are still underway, but Saturday will include a morning of children’s activities and entertainment and progress to an afternoon and evening of live music. Sunday will be a Family and Faith celebration, featuring family activities and live music.

The Concerts in the Parks series is sponsored by Happy Daz, the City of Lima the Council for the Arts .
