We all crave those sweet, cool, refreshing treats during the hot summer months and Lima has an option that will curb your sweet tooth without the guilt of extra calories. Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt has partnered with us in our Active Menu Challenge, offering a dessert option to residents in our community that can fill your need for something sweet but can be customized to be light on calories as well. Located on Elida Road, Menchie’s offers a build-your-own frozen yogurt bar with multiple yogurt and topping options available each day. Yogurt options include fat free, low fat, no sugar added and low carb varieties.
According to the Menchie’s national website, “Our frozen yogurt is a good source of calcium as it is made with fresh milk from our California dairy, and our “smiley” California cows have not been treated with artificial growth hormones (rBST). Our product line boasts gluten-free, vegan, and no high fructose corn syrup options and we strive to use natural flavors including real cake, cookies, spices, fruits and nuts. Our entire line of frozen yogurt is certified Kosher and is awarded the live and active culture seal by the National Yogurt Association. Menchie’s focuses on quality, variety and innovation in order to produce our best-in-class frozen yogurt.”
Local owner Clara Weitz is excited to be able to partner with Activate Allen County and promote Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt as a wonderful dessert option. She states, “I am happy to join this challenge and provide information in my store about building both a nutritious and delicious bowl of frozen yogurt. The beauty of Menchie’s is the wide variety of options and combinations that each individual can create. For those wanting to keep it lighter, the information and signage from the Activate team will be especially helpful.”
As a part of our Menu Challenge, signage has been added to inform customers about tips to creating a bowl that not only tastes great, but will provide maximum nutritional value as well. This includes monitoring the portion of frozen yogurt that a customer puts in their bowl (we recommend about 6 ounces of yogurt), choosing low fat, nonfat, and no sugar added yogurt varieties and examples of toppings that could be used. Some of these approved toppings include fresh fruit, granola, dark chocolate and yogurt chips and even finishing off your creation with a small dollop of cool whip. With this signage in the store, customers can easily make a healthy choice while enjoying a refreshing treat.
