Canal Healthmart Pharmacy in Spencerville joins Activate Allen County as a member of Healthy Happens Here, Allen County’s Grocery Program Activate Allen County is pleased to announce that Canal Healthmart Pharmacy, located at 102 S. Broadway in Spencerville, has agreed to join Healthy Happens Here- Allen County’s Healthy Grocery Program. Activate Allen County is pleased to have partnered with St. Rita’s Health Partners to move this program into the Spencerville area. St. Rita’s has generously donated refrigeration for the produce and will be sponsoring coupons that will be provided to residents to assist with buying produce.

Healthy Happens Here is a program to promote healthy options- such as fresh produce and smarter snack options in small stores throughout Allen County. The goal of this program is to not only increase the healthy choices offered within small stores located in food deserts, but display these choices in an attractive and appealing way to assist customers in making the healthier choice easier. Without the presence of a full service
grocery store in Spencerville, bringing Healthy Happens Here to this community will increase resident’s ability to obtain fresh produce on a more regular basis.

On Monday April 4, from 10 am- 2 pm, Activate Allen County and St. Rita’s Health Partners will be hosting a free kick-off event for the community. Community partners will also be in attendance. The event will take place at Canal Healthmart Pharmacy at 102 S. Broadway in Spencerville. There will be blood pressure screenings, coupons for produce, prizes, community vendors and more during the event! We hope to see many members of the community out on April 4th to learn more about the Healthy Happens Here program and take part in this free event!

Activate Allen County continues to desire for other small stores to join our program. If you or any store owners you know may be interested in learning more, please contact our office at 419-221-5035 and ask for Kayla Monfort.
