LIMA — The community is invited to give blood in honor of 11-year-old Lauren Cunningham and other children battling cancer at a special blood drive held in her name on Wed., Jan. 13, at Allen County Children’s Services. The blood drive will be held between noon and 6 p.m.
Lauren was disagnosed with leukemia in 2014. Since then she has received more than 78 blood transfusions during her treatment. She may need more transfusions in the future to help her continue to battle with leukemia.
Lauren is involved in dance, softball and soccer student at her school, Bath Elementary School. She also attends Bath Community Church and enjoys hunting with her father. All these activities would no longer be possible for her if not for the generous blood donors who have helped her continue to live through her treatments.
“We would love to see anyone willing to come and donate blood at this special drive,” said Mariah Cunningham, Lauren’s mother.
Blood and platelet donations are needed every day for patients with many serious medical conditions. Accident and burn victims, heart surgery patients, organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease may all need blood.
Donors are asked to please call 1-800-RED CROSS or go to redcrossblood.org to schedule a blood donation appointment.
